"See vocalist Julie Eigenberg and guitar hero Manny Moreira join forces to pay tribute to Brazilian jazz legend Antonio Carlos “Tom” Jobim, the Grammy-winning king of bossa nova and composer of enduring hits, including the international smash “The Girl From Ipanema.” Eigenberg, an accomplished jazz singer and composer, is equally entrancing whether performing American or Latin-flavored classics. Moriera, a Juilliard-trained composer, arranger and singer, was part of the musical ensemble for the Grammy and Tony-winning musical In the Heights, among many other Broadway and off-Broadway shows. Facts about the Portuguese language

Portuguese is the official language in nine different countries: Portugal, Brazil, Mozambique, Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Timor-Leste, Equatorial Guinea, Cape Verde, and São Tomé and Principe.  Portuguese is growing fast and has the potential to be an “international communication language,” according to UNESCO. The roots of the Portuguese language are based in the autonomous community of  Galicia , in the north of Portugal and the northwest of Spain. The national cocktail of Brazil is the refreshingly tangy (and potent) caipirinha, made of cachaça , lime, sugar and good ol’ fashion elbow grease. Despite the fact that the name of the drink is derived from the diminutive of the word caipira , which can be translated as “hillbilly”, caipirinhas are enjoyed from the fine restaurants of São Paulo to the beach side snack bars of Recife. In fact, they are now enjoyed across the globe. The key ingredient is cachaça , also known as pinga , caninha , or aguardente . It is a rum-like alcohol distilled directly from sugar cane juice. To make a caipirinha , grab a low-ball glass and the following: 2 oz. of cachaça 2 tsp. of sugar 1 lime (quartered) 1 handful of crushed ice To make, toss the lime wedges and sugar into the low-ball glass and muddle (mash together, mixing the sugar with lime juice… if you don’t have a muddler, you can use a spoon).
