Until April 13Art Exhibit by João Henrique Brandão "The Duality of Life"
João Henrique Brandão was born in Curitiba, Brazil in 1981 and was raised around paintings, books, palettes, pieces of furniture, tubes of oil paint and frames where he was taught the commitment and discipline essential to make art. The youngest son of a notorious writer and a prominent restoration professional he learned to love books and paint. He received his undergraduate degree from the School of Visual Arts of Parana. His artistic expression emerges from the deep of his mind, going through the heart and ending in the canvas surface. It expresses tactility; materiality with which the artist makes his final work gradually becomes a source of multiple meanings and interpretations. Logic and imagination, rational and irrational, affection and hatred; this kind of contrast of feelings, which we all are drenched in, it is what makes his art tempting and provocative. The duality of our life is explicit on the Joao Henrique’s paintings. He says: “My paintings are the worries, regrets, desires, predicaments, uncertainties and hopes with which we all have to deal. The contemporary life as a whole is the subject of my study. My mission is to transform the canvas into a complex surface of contrasting textures, always thinking painting not only as a mere technique but also as receptacle of feelings and transmitter of ideas.” This is his first NY solo exhibition. At M2 Ultra Lounge Gallery, 530 West 28th Street between 10th and 11th Av., Chelsea - NY. For more information: (212) 629-9000.
